Community Spirit
Rising above the rest of our humble community, we serve as a centre point of socialisation for residents and visitors alike since 1958 when the previous hotel was rebuilt by the Boulia Shire Council and council having owned and ran it until 2000. The Hotel sold again in 2003 to former owner Trevor Jones up until Max Smith purchased the hotel in July 2014. This two story restaurant and hotel is not only the largest building in the community, it is one of the oldest. You are guaranteed to learn something special about our small town just by walking in our door!
Our Current Owner
Our current owner is Max Smith, whose family has been in the hospitality industry for two generations. He is proud to offer quality bar, restaurant, and hotel services for members of the Boulia community and the tourists that frequent our town yearly.

Helping people to enjoy the tastiest meals, to relax, have a few coldies, refresh with an espresso coffee and enjoy a comfortable nights sleep in Boulia is our mission at The Australian Hotel Motel.
We proudly serve as our community’s only restaurant and hotel, providing quality services to residents and visitors.
Maxie’s Café Restaurant
The local restaurant serves as a gathering place for our community and tourists serving only the tastiest lunches and dinners. We are a fully licenced restaurant also offering café facilities, both available either dining in the comfort of our air conditioned restaurant, enjoying the outdoors in our shaded grassed area or if the comfort of your own place suits then why not order your meal and beverages as a takeaway.
Our restaurant is fully wheel chair accessible into the dining area along with a bathroom fitted out with assistance bars.
We are open for Coffee and Cafe items from 9.30 am daily.
The Kitchen is open for Lunch is service between 12pm - 1pm Monday to Saturday and
Sundays we have Pizza's Available all day as well as toasties, pies, sausage rolls, quiche, soup and wraps etc.
Our Dinner Service Times are 6pm to 8.30pm Monday to Saturday
and 6pm to 8.00pm Sunday.
(These times are and can be subject to change without notification depending on season and patronage)
Table bookings are preferred, especially if you have a large group ~ Please call the hotel at 07 4746 3144 for a reservation.
Maxie's Bar
We pride our selves on serving the West a Cold Drop and at Maxie's there is always time for a Coffee or a Cold one so come hang out and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our main bar. Join your friends for a game of pool or darts or just tell and listen to a few yarns sitting around the bar.
There is an ATM located in the main bar for your convenience.
Takeaway Alcohol can be purchased over our main bar from 10am everyday until 9pm sharp at the latest for last takeaway orders.. Please do not ask for takeaway orders after 9pm as refusal may offend.
Enjoy our Fun Fridays from 6.30pm to 7.0pm and Sunday Fundays from 12pm to 2pm
Functions
Our spacious venue can cater and accommodate for large or small functions, events and tour groups. We are happy to arrange a function
tailored to suit your needs and budget. We can also provide catering or platters for off-site functions.
